Team Pennyslvania Redesign

Designed during my marketing internship with the Pittsburgh Penguins. I had free reign on this project to produce a new logo and sweaters for the Team Pennsylvania youth team co-sponsored by the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. The sweaters were used in the 2014 Brick Invitational Tournament in Edmonton.

I wanted to keep both the logo and the sweater design simple, but grounded in hockey tradition. Both borrow heavily from Pennsylvania heritage in their use of blue and yellow. The circular crest harkens back to the early days of Pittsburgh hockey, while the striping pattern on the sweaters recall fond memories of the 1990's Penguins teams. The look itself brought joy to the young hockey players, as the sweater was especially popular when teams exchanged jerseys on the last day of the tournament.

But the design is not all just for show. Following trends embraced by clubs like the San Jose Sharks and Carolina Hurricanes, the simple lines and use of space on the sweater allows for greater freedom of movement on the ice. In their new uniforms, Team PA improved from 0-4-2 in 2013 to a 3-3-0 record in 2014.

The logo is still in use today.
